World Association for Christian Communication, now Toronto-based
(ENI)--The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) has held its first meeting at its new global headquarters in Toronto.
The organization is known for its global advocacy work on behalf of groups which do not have access to communication media or who consider themselves to be misrepresented or stereotyped in news
stories.
WACC leaders say it is launching a major programmatic initiative focused on the role of the media in peace building.
"In the next three to five years, we will be focusing on how journalists, advocates and spokespeople for community action groups can overcome cultural and religious stereotypes and build peaceful communities," said Randy Naylor, WACC general secretary who is a Canadian at a ceremony to launch the new offices before a 3 -5 October meeting of its board.
Citing the difficulties of meeting the expense of operating from its previous headquarters in London, WACC began moving this year from England to its new Canadian base, after debate on the merits
of the relocation.
In October 2008, WACC will convene an international congress in South Africa's parliamentary capital of Cape Town under the theme "Communication is Peace". [199 words]
