WACC relocates to Toronto

The World Association for Christian Communication has chosen Toronto as the new site for its global headquarters. The international media rights advocacy and training organisation will operate from a newly-renovated church in the heart of the city’s multi-cultural east end.

“We chose this neighbourhood and this city because it reflects WACC’s belief that communication defines people’s common humanity, creates community, and strengthens cultures”, says the organisation’s general secretary, the Rev. Randy Naylor.

The official opening of the new offices on Monday, October 2 at 4:30 is expected to draw a cross-section of the city’s communication community. Elected officials, church leaders, and communications academics will join with the organisation’s international board of directors to celebrate the opening of the new offices in the former education wing of Hope United Church at the corner of Danforth and Main.

WACC, the only worldwide, faith-based organisation supporting communication rights and training, has corporate and personal members in 120 countries, organised in eight regional associations. The group is known for promoting the communication rights of marginalised peoples as well as supporting training in small-format broadcast production and publishing for community groups in the global south and eastern Europe. In relocating from London, UK, WACC expects to reduce its annual operating costs by $500,000.

The president of WACC, Dr. Musimbi Kanyoro of Kenya, says that in moving to North America, "WACC will continue to reflect the total globe. Our mission is to take the option for the disadvantaged. Those exist in North America too."
