The WACC- North America (WACC-NA) Regional Executive Committee became the first regional committee to meet at WACC Global’s headquarters in Toronto, May 9-11, 2008. In addition to experiencing WACC’s new home, the Executive Committee had the opportunity to meet the WACC Global staff and participate in judging this year’s WACC Global photo competition.
The meeting was launched with key information on the “new WACC” by Randy Naylor, WACC General Secretary, while updates on Congress preparations, WACC thematic programmes and the work of other WACC regions were presented by the WACC Global staff.
The meeting focused on developing a strategic plan led by Sheila George, the WACC-NA Secretary. The process’s goal was to help WACC- North America region prioritize its work for the next three years.Targeted membership recruitment, an online survey of current members and plans for an awareness campaign on communication rights are just a few of the priorities identified during the weekend meeting.
Reports on current activities, such as the upcoming Peace Media Monitoring Project in September 2008, and plans for WACC-NA’s presence at the forthcoming WACC Congress 2008 in Cape Town, October 6-10, and the Religion Communication Congress 2010 (RCC2010) were discussed.
A celebratory dinner was held at the conclusion of the meetings in Toronto’s Greektown, not far from the WACC Offices. The Executive Committee encourages WACC-NA members to attend Congress 08 and looks forward to meeting many WACC Global members in Cape Town. WACC-NA Executive Committee invites all the members to its regional annual meeting due to take place in New York City on December 6, 2008.
