Congress keynote speaker stresses urgent need to end violence against women

As the world commemorates International Women’s day, March 8, Joanne Sandler, ad interim Executive Director of UNIFEM, has stressed the urgent need to end violence against women in all its forms.
Sandler, in her statement, says that UNIFEM has set an ambitious goal of raising US$100 million a year by 2015 to expand its advocacy against sexual and gender-based violence
“We are also promoting a way for people everywhere to speak out and demand an end to violence against women”, she said.
Sandler will address communicators on ‘Media and gender justice’ at the upcoming global communications conference, Congress 2008, organized by WACC, to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, October 6-10.
