Christian fundamentalism and the media: Fundamentalism may be religious or secular, but when fundamentalism imposes its views on society, it threatens both human rights and communication rights. And when religious fundamentalism can offer distorted opinions and fanatical misinformation via the mass media, it threatens the political and social stability of entire nations. This issue of Media Development begins to explore the way Christian fundamentalists use the mass media in an effort to promote communication rights, inclusiveness and diversity in a multicultural world.

La cumbre APEC realizada en noviembre de 2004 en Santiago reunió empresarios y gobernantes para discutir cómo hacer mejores negocios con nuestras economías. En Ginebra, en diciembre del año 2003, la Cumbre de la Sociedad de la Información reunió también gobernantes y empresarios de las Comunicaciones para discutir cómo hacer mejores negocios con lo que es la materia prima de la democracia: la información y la comunicación. Tanto en la APEC como en la CMSI, el reparto del negocio se hace entre los poderosos y a la ciudadanía sólo le resta mirar la pompa del encuentro hasta que los personajes entran al salón o al comedor, y nos cierran la puerta.

The AIDS pandemic came to Thai public notice in 1984. It has since spread from men who had sex with men, to injecting drug users, to sex workers, to the male population at large, and finally to the partners of the males and their children. A survey conducted in 2002 by UNAIDS, UNICEF & WHO found that, at the end of 2001, there were 650,000 infected adults (i.e. 15-49 years of age), 220,000 of these were females. In addition, there were 21,000 infected children (0-15 years) and the ratio of males/females who live with HIV/AIDS has shifted from 4:1 to 2:1 during the last decade.
