World Summit for the Information Society, WSIS
WACC was visited by Sally Burch of ALAI on her return from the prepcom in Geneva. Rules of engagement are being decided on which will affect how Civil Society participates in the meetings. Regional meetings, as part of the inter-sessional consultation process (between this prepcom and the next) are being planned now - this is a critical time for NGO’s to get involved in the process. WACC has the secretariat for the Campaign for Communication Rights in the Information Society, CRIS, which is the main representation of Civil Society groups in the WSIS.

World Summit on Sustainable Development, WSSD
“WSSD, to be held Aug 26th to Sept 4th this year in Johannesburg, is very important for the community radio sector. Resolutions to be taken affect all plans made by governments, NGOs, corporations and the media for the next ten years”, says Peter Matthews of the National Community Radio Forum in South Africa. “The NCRF National Office has been working hard on a comprehensive training and programming plan for WSSD, and now it is time to show that community radio is truly a tool for development.”
