Arabic kit developed to prevent child abuse: The kit is aimed at educating children to protect themselves against sexual abuse.

The first ever awareness kit, in Arabic language, aimed at educating children to protect themselves against sexual abuse has been developed by a Lebanese human rights group.

The kit was produced by KAFA, a human rights organization, also a member of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC).

Entitled “ Marching Towards Safety”, the kit is meant to be used by child care providers, social workers and parents as an animation and awareness tool with children. It includes a ‘ security passport’ booklet for children and other promotional items in the form of posters, pins and an informational pamphlet addressed to parents and educators.

" The passport", is an illustrated booklet outlining various situations of child abuse and a series of questions addressed to the child regarding possible responses to these situations. It is aimed at helping the children protect themselves from abuse and exploitation.

KAFA, meaning enough violence and exploitation, was established in March 2005 by a group of women lawyers, journalists and other professionals with long experience in the area of human rights, to "break the silence" and fight all forms of violence and exploitation perpetrated on women and children.

Through the project, KAFA aims to provide guidance and advice to children and young people on the dangers of sexual exploitation, to increase public awareness of the issues around child sexual abuse and exploitation and to encourage parents and child care-providers to take realistic steps to protect children from such abuse and exploitation.

At present, KAFA is implementing the awareness programme at summer camps organized by the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs. The project was supported by WACC.
