Welcome to WACC’s 2009 Project List It is a privilege for me to send you greetings from Canada at the end of a year in which the World Association for Christian Communication was able to deliver both our ongoing commitment to programmes and projects and, in addition to that, organize and host the 4th World Congress. Congress 2008 was an opportunity to focus on the potential for communicators to actively support global efforts to build peace. The morning programme provided inspirational key note speakers who examined peace from a variety of viewpoints (communication rights, gender and media justice, power and conflict, and new communication and information technologies), while the afternoon programmes provided specific opportunities to enhance and develop particular communication skills or to sample a wide range of activities and projects already underway throughout the world in the pursuit of communication for peace. Congress is the largest single programme undertaken by WACC during each 6 year programme cycle. It is only natural then that many of the projects planned for 2009 will have been influenced by the theme and experience of Congress 2008. Even those who were not able to be present in Cape Town for Congress were able to participate and benefit online through a major communications effort involving the website, a blog, YouTube, press releases and opinion pieces posted before and during Congress. As in last year’s introduction to the Project List, I want to remind you that WACC’s basic approach to programme is now based on a number of ‘themes’, developed in dialogue with the WACC Regional Associations and others, which not only bring more focus to our work but which enable us to be more confident that our work is effective and will produce real results for the people in the communities and institutions which are partners with WACC in these projects and programmes. As we screened and ultimately accepted the proposals that make it to our Project List 2009 it became clear to us, once again, that the thematic approach has not only enhanced our work globally but has also enabled our partners to undertake more specific and effective work locally. Again as in last year, I want to acknowledge your support and generosity in supporting WACC and our partners, and to ask you to consider some of the enclosed projects as programme activities which you would like to fund in 2009. Without your support these projects will not happen. With your support WACC and our partners are able to make a significant difference in communities and regions throughout the world. Thank you for your financial support of our communication ministry. With your continued support WACC and our partners will continue to be instruments of that prophetic call for peace with justice.
