Ref. 1528

Northern Uganda is lagging behind on all socio-economic indicators. This project seeks to address the agricultural and related information needs, and inadequate financial services in areas beyond the reach of commercial banks for parts of the rural population in Northern Uganda. These problems can be addressed through Information and Communication Technology tools in the form of village-based mobile phone services and internet based information services. The project seeks to ensure that the community has regular and timely access to market information via communications networks and that it has access to financial services through mobile money transaction as a simple, trusted way to receive, keep, and send money between individuals through mobile phones as a banking service. The project will also help the community to interact through phone-ins to FM radio stations using mobile phones.
