WACC signs partnership agreement with Globethics.net

WACC has signed a partnership agreement with Globethics.net, a global network that promotes the exchange of insights and research on ethics and values. The partnership agreement aims at creating synergies in responding to global ethical challenges. It will run for four years in the first instance. Globethics.net offers the leading global digital library on ethics, making available more than 700,000 full text articles free of charge. Through the partnership agreement, a WACC collection of publications and documents will be established in the library. Read more...

Joint Press Release: IFJ-WACC

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) have launched a project to promote fair gender portrayal within media houses and the journalistic profession. The Learning Resource Kit for Gender-Ethical Journalism and Media House Policy aims to respond to the 2010 Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP)’s findings on the perpetuation of gender-imbalanced news coverage, gender stereotyping and women’s significant underrepresentation in the world news media. The 2010 GMMP in 108 countries found that women comprise only 24% of the people seen, heard or read about on television, radio and in print news despite the fact over half of the world’s population is female. Communication Rights is a key issue in contemporary societies, especially in a country like India, which faces major communication deficits. Negotiating Communication Rights explores some of the most important aspects of communication rights movements in India. Beginning with the theoretical aspects of communication rights, the book deals with five case studies related to significant movements of our times, namely, the Right to Information, Free and Open Source Software, Women and Media, Community Radio, and Citizen Journalism. A conference on “the role of media in promoting freedom of expression” held in Beirut, Lebanon, 9-11 June 2011, called on professional communicators to work together to create an international support network for partners, to monitor and disseminate cases of repression of freedom in the region, and to enable youth to use social media to promote freedom of expression. The conference was held at the initiative of the World Association for Christian Communication-Middle East Region (WACC-ME). Its purpose was for members and representatives of civil society to discuss ways of changing the reality of media in the Arab world as well as opportunities for promoting freedom of expression. Asia and Pacific project partners of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) reaffirmed the importance of communication rights in their struggle for human rights during a project partners’ meeting held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, May 15. The partners from Nepal, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Philippines, India, Vietnam and Fiji discussed communication priorities, strategies and future potential partnerships. They also assessed the impact of their projects, explored possible areas of joint action and provided feedback on WACC’s strategic planning process. Read more...

World Council of Churches calls on faith communities to work for peace with justice Imprimer E-mail

The World Council of Churches (WCC) marked the end of its Decade to Overcome Violence with an International Ecumenical Peace Convocation (IEPC). Attended by some 1,000 delegates from all over the world, it took place in Kingston, Jamaica, 17-25 May 2011. The IEPC took the next step in an ecumenical journey intended to explore in depth the concept of “just peace”, to address ethical and theological questions, and to strengthen the networks and partnerships necessary for ecumenical peace-building and peace advocacy today. The outcomes of the IEPC will influence the agenda of the next WCC Assembly, taking place in 2013 in Busan, South Korea, on the theme “God of life, lead us to justice and peace”. Read more...
