Comunicación Cultural y de Servicios, Mexico
€ 4,200 Ref. 1520
Indigenous people the world over are facing the consequences of global warming and climate change. It is most important therefore that indigenous people take active part in the search for solutions and for climate justice. This is what Cultural Communication for Self Management and Service, created in 2005, is attempting to address. The Zapoteco group has become a focal point for the development efforts of this sector of Mexico‟s Indigenous population. The group has made explicit, both in the Zapoteco language and in Spanish, the need for Zapoteco women and men to be involved in challenging the status quo responsible for global warming and has encouraged the community to put forward their own needs, possible solutions and opinions on what needs to be done. The group will conduct research on the effects of global warming and climate change in the Zapoteco territories and will use the material to produce Zapoteco and Spanish-language radio programmes.
