Ref. 1366

Venezuelan current journalism tends to be reactive when faced with issues of poverty, despite the fact that poverty affects some 60% of the population. In order to help overcome this situation, Medianálisis proposes to undertake research about the quality and quantity of new sources regarding poverty. The research will allow Medianálisis to plan advocacy activities, for a with journalism students and training workshops with journalists and editors. Created in 2010 by a team of committed academics, Asociación Medianálisis dedicates its actions to the systematic study of Venezuela‟s mass media. It studies their role in relation to audiences and public advocacy as well as the kind of journalism employed by the media regarding development issues. It does so with the purpose of influencing its functioning, the practice of journalism as well as communication-related social processes. With this project, Medianálisis seeks to create awareness among editors and journalists of the need to incorporate the problem of poverty on the agenda of the media and increase the quantity and quality of news items related to poverty.
