Pacific Region Triennial Assembly Statement

The members of this WACC-Pacific Assembly wish to express solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the North American Region who are suffering from the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina. Our prayer is that all suffering people will be able to restore their lives and fully recover from this tragedy.

We the delegates heard stories of how communication activities are developing across the region. We are optimistic that such activities will benefit all people.

We firmly believe:
- In promoting awareness of the environment in which communication takes place.
- In promoting understanding that all our good human behaviour depends on good communication and good relationships.
- In our need to grow in appreciation of human goodness in ourselves and in others

We affirm the value-based principles that have guided WACC for the past 20 years namely that effective communication creates community, is participatory, liberates, supports and develops culture and is prophetic.

We encourage all Christians in the region to see Christianity as a relevant and dynamic force that points the way forward, as we seek to engage in dialogue with the secular world.

We call upon all church members to use appropriate forms of communication, including new technologies, to build communities of faith within and between the Pacific churches.

We urge Church Leaders to ensure that all those involved in Ministry receive training in the principles and practice of communication for the enhancement of effective ministry.

We live in the hope that the prophets among us will keep challenging us to develop new communities that will be based on Christian values.
