WACC Christmas greetings 2011 Print E-mail

LEFT:  This picture represents the symbol of light that we all share regardless of our faith backgrounds. It reminds us that Peace is at the heart of all our major religious festivals including Christmas! (By Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls, WACC-Pacific Vice-Chair)

CENTRE: By sending our best wishes for a happy and blessed Christmas, we think about our victims of nuclear tests, their families and their children in particular. This world crisis strongly affects the Pacific. The young innocent children on our Christmas card are only asking for the future environment of their atolls be protected from climate change caused by the selfishness of today’s adults. (By Linda Maea Tematua, WACC-Pacific Regional Executive Committee member)

RIGHT: A rural woman prepares "rangoli". An adaptation of our cultural symbols and practices for celebrations and a reminder of the multiple roles of women's work in the home, including preparing for festivities and celebrations. (By Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls, WACC-Pacific Vice-Chair)

We thank WACC-Pacific Regional Executive Committee members for providing the images and message for this year’s Christmas greetings.

Communication for Peace and Peace Journalism Print E-mail

1. Kenya Pastoralist Journalist Network (KPJN)

WACC has been supporting the Kenya Pastoralist Journalist Network (KPJN) to carry out a peace education and awareness project to address the different factors that fuel conflict and retard development, including cattle rustling, direct marginalization, resource competition (e.g. water, pasture and salt licks), prevalence of small arms and light weapons. The project stressed traditional governance systems and traditional methods of conflict resolution, promoted understanding and exchange between rival communities, trained ex-combatants on alternative livelihoods and re-integration into society.
