Asociación Civil Artemisa Comunicación (ACAC), Argentina

€ 11,000
Ref. 1408

Media tend to treat women unfairly, portraying them in prejudicial ways and reproducing rather than challenging gender biases. Asociación Civil Artemisa Comunicación (ACAC) will produce a documentary series that analyzes media treatment of women. The series set for broadcast in the national public television Canal Encuentro will contribute to creating the capacities of media audiences to „read‟ media from a critical, gender perspective. The project is to produce one in the series of four documentaries, specifically, on the theme of women in politics. The full series addresses the themes of violence against women, gender and sports, and motherhood. The series will propose ways in which the unfair and imbalanced treatment of women can be corrected. ACAC plans to apply the documentaries to  awareness and capacity building initiatives nationwide and across Latin America. The television channel reaches 6 million homes and women, youth and the most vulnerable groups stand to benefit most from improved media portrayals challenging inequality. ACAC was created in 2005 by female journalists invested in enabling a more rigorous, gender-aware journalism. ACAC created an online space to share gender-focussed news and continues to put at the disposal of journalists tools for gender-aware practice.
