Sierra Leone: Equipping Radio Shalom for Peace Communication Print E-mail

Council of Churches of Sierra Leone (CCSL), Sierra Leone

€ 30,000
Ref: 1326

The problem to be addressed is the lack of peace building and peace consolidation messages in the media content in Sierra Leone, particularly radio which is the most effective medium of communication in the country. Establishing a peace radio station, the only independent radio station in Sierra Leone set up with the intention and objectives of peace education and information, will fill the gap of promoting conflict prevention and resolution peace by disseminating peace messages through its programme content. The test for political peace and stability will be the forthcoming 2012 presidential and parliamentary national elections. Radio Shalom will be impartial and balanced in its approaches to covering sensitive issues touching on stability and peace. Journalists and production staff will be trained to meet the challenges of professionalism and ethical standards in broadcasting. It will be a beacon of hope for a peaceful and stable Sierra Leone.
