Democratic Republic of the Congo: Strengthening Peace and Reconciliation between Communities Print E-mail

SOS Femmes Solidaires sans Frontières (SOS FSF), Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

€ 6,000
Ref: 1358

For many years the DRC has been the scene of violence, intolerance, and lack of respect for human rights. With a decade of war 1996-2006, whose entry points were in the east of the country, in the territories of Fizi and Uvira in South Kivu, the local population and communities became politically and socially divided. Corrupt politicians made the situation worse, especially among indigenous peoples who previously lived in harmony together. War after war paralysed the socio-economic life of communities and intensified feelings of hatred, jealousy, xenophobia, and discrimination leading to killing and other crimes. Faced with this crisis situation, this project aims to train peace and reconciliation animators and spokespeople with the aim of establishing lasting peace, encouraging social interaction and dialogue in order to address the trauma of conflict experienced by many different people.
