Cameroon: Equipping People to Face the Challenge of Peace Communication Print E-mail

Club Media Ouest (CMO), Cameroon

€ 8,700
Ref: 1466

The media in the Cameroon contribute to popular uprisings at the time of civil disturbances, strikes and political tension. Despite the high quality of different newspapers, journalists lack sufficient understanding of the impact of their articles on citizens‟behaviour. The period 2011-12 will be marked by presidential, legislative, and communal elections, at a time when secessionists in the Anglophone part of the country will be redoubling their claim for autonomy. In this context, it is urgent to equip journalists to respond with greater professional dexterity and sensitivity and to promote communication for peace. This project will organize two sub-regional workshops for 50 journalists focusing on peace journalism, conduct exchange visits to zones of conflict, and produce a workbook on peace communication.
