Promoting Ecumenical Dialogue among Young People and Women |

Peru has a variety of religions, with a majority of Christians. In the past 30 years, intolerance, political and armed violence have led to disagreements and a breakdown of dialogue among the different confessions and religious beliefs. Likewise, prejudices have arisen against the word ‘ecumenism’, which is misinterpreted for lack of knowledge about the term and what it implies. For these reasons, it is necessary to establish a communication strategy that strengthens ecumenical dialogue and its true significance for a more just society living in solidarity. The project intends to set up an ecumenical youth network in Lima (with national outreach), by means of ‘Training in ecumenical dialogue’ in order to create leaders who promote dialogue, first in strategic places within Lima and later throughout the country. An ecumenical directory will also be created as a tool for broadening the network. In addition, a series of publications will be produced (virtual and actual) about different religious communities in Peru, which will include an ecumenical calendar of festivals. Finally, the project will encourage and strengthen existing ecumenical spaces by means of participation in the coordination of interreligious activities.
