Video 48, the audio-visual wing of Hanitzotz Publishing House, a partner of WACC in Jerusalem, Israel, committed to bridging the gap between Arabs and Jews, fighting for the recognition of Arab Israeli’s rights, has just released/produced a powerful film “Six Floors to Hell”.
It was produced thanks to the financial support of WACC and its German partner, Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst (EED), in Bonn, Germany.
The film addresses the invisibility of Palestinian workers who “illegally” by pass the military checkpoints and separation wall from the Occupied Territories into Israel trying to find work in order to feed their families with the poor job opportunities they might find in this "rich" part of the world. It portrays them trying to earn a living; they live as fugitives and are treated as criminals. Arrested over and over again by the police, they insist on going back to look for daily jobs while living in an abandoned six floor underground parking structure of a huge unfinished shopping-mall. They live with no water, electricity or air.
This film, writes Roni Beni Efrat, the project holder, was chosen as one of 12 Israeli films to participate in Doc Aviv, Israel’s most prestigious film festival.
