Welcome to WACC’s Project List 2009/2 Greetings from Toronto, where we are reveling in summer which arrived this year exactly on June 21st. We trust that this Project List finds you in a time where you may anticipate some re-creation and growth in both your world and your work. We continue to further develop our new (in 2007) thematic approach to our work and we are pleased that there is increasing receptivity to this style of work. Our project partners have responded enthusiastically to the six themes which now define our work. For our part, we are able to provide better management of the projects and even more support to the project partners themselves. Our Regional Associations continue to assist us in initially evaluating project proposals through an online feedback system that we have developed and refined with each usage. We are very pleased that the project partnerships described in this list reflect a much more even distribution of projects throughout the Global South. We believe that this is a result of more people understanding our thematic approach and more project partners recognizing how their work and WACC’s goals can be integrated. One of our goals in reshaping WACC in 2006 was that there would be increased correlation between what WACC was seeking to do and what WACC was able to do through project partnerships. We were able to realize some of this dream in 2008 when WACC launched, with the Council of Churches of Ghana, a 3-year programme to develop resources that would help faith and community leaders address the issues of stigmatization and HIV and Aids. Many smaller projects seek to address the same theme in other parts of the world. By the end of the fourth year, WACC will be able to discern valuable learnings from an analysis of the projects, their outcomes and activities. In a similar vein, WACC’s Congress 2008 saw a number of seminars and workshops related to Communication and Peace emerge at local and regional levels. This interest continues in 2009 and a number of new projects will further advance our learnings in the thematic area communication and peace. In 2008 we also held consultations with project partners to determine how effective WACC was in supporting them, how successful they were in the implementation of their projects, and what were the learnings that would shape and inform our continuing support of small projects in communication for development. These learnings are also reflected in this project list. We are convinced that these projects are worthy of your support and that your financial support will result in meaningful activities that produce real change in the lives of the people served by the project partners. Your past support has made a significant difference in the world. We trust that you will join us, once again, in 2009. Randy Naylor
