The African Woman and Child (AWC) Feature Service worked with journalists, editors, and media managers in Kenya to build capacity for sensitivity and skills in gender-responsive reporting. The one-year “Gender awareness and balanced reporting in the media” project trained 60 reporters and 32 editors on gender-aware reporting. Funded by WACC, the initiative was completed in January 2012. |
An important output of the project is a gender policy template for media houses, developed following consultations with participating journalists and editors. While the template was designed primarily for the local media houses, it may be adapted and localized for other contexts, retaining the relevant elements as needed.
