PCT General Secretary, Andrew Chang, welcomed the WACC-Asia team to Taiwan. At a joint meeting with the PCT, the executive committee announced that the annual Asia Communication Sunday will be marked on September 2. With the collaboration of PCT, a resource booklet for the communication Sunday will be produced in Chinese and English.
The committee members also met with New Eyes Television Associate General Manager Tsai Shang-chih who gave a brief history of communications ministry in Taiwan, starting from the first newspaper, Taiwan Church News, established in 1885. He also talked about the PCT television network, New Eyes TV, and PCT’s internet communications ministry.
In addition, the Associate General Secretary gave a general overview of PCT ministries in the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot, which ravaged southern Taiwan in 2009, and the hardships faced by the local communities. WACC-Asia is particularly concerned about communication and climate justice in recent years. PCT’s rebuilding ministries will be featured in the Communication Sunday booklet which will be distributed to WACC members in Asia and around the world.
WACC-Asia President Rev. Samuel Meshack thanked the PCT for hosting the meeting. He underscored that communication rights are God-given basic human rights and added that WACC enables Christian communicators from around the world to help marginalized communities establish their own means of communication. |
