| WACC North America sponsors GMMP Roundtable in New York City |

"WACC North America wants to raise awareness of both WACC and the GMMP findings with current and future journalists in the U.S. and Canada, " observes Sheila George, President of WACC North America. Rebekah Chevalier, GMMP roundtable coordinator and WACC North America Vice-president, says she thinks most journalists will be shocked at the findings. "The roundtable is a great opportunity to stimulate awareness of gender issues in the news," she says. St. John's University Communications Professor Basilio Monteiro, a WACC North America Executive Committee member, has provided the venue and arranged for the panel attendees. To start the discussion, WACC's Programme Manager for Media and Gender Justice Sarah Macharia will present the major GMMP findings. For those unable to attend the New York event, there will be online opportunities to participate via live blogging from the roundtable and a webinar with the same focus will feature Ken Irby of The Poynter Institute at noon on September 20. Future roundtables at universities in the U.S. and Canada are anticipated.
