Changing Leadership in WACC

Randy Naylor, General Secretary of the World Association for Christian Communication has resigned from his position as of October 31st, 2010.

In his letter to the President of WACC, Dennis Smith, Randy said: "I have been involved in the World Association for Christian Communication in one way or another since 1983. During that time I have been entrusted with many different roles and responsibilities.

Perhaps the most challenging honour WACC has given me is to be its General Secretary. Since May, 2001 I have been part of the WACC staff and that has given me insights into the world of Christian Communication and the challenges of ecumenical ministry today in a way that I can only describe as an extreme privilege and blessing.

It is therefore with many mixed feelings that I write you today with this letter of resignation. It has been my role to introduce significant change in the governance, programme, and administrative structures of WACC. After much thought and prayer, I have come to the conclusion that this is the most appropriate time for WACC to recruit new senior leadership.”

Naylor emphasized that he sees this as a good time for new leadership at WACC. The changes brought about during his time have left WACC living within its available income, with a solid and available financial base of over $5 million dollars, and with experienced programme staff eager to see WACC move into new programme and funding partnerships. With a new President and Vice-president who have had time to understand leadership within WACC this is an ideal time for them to guide a new GS as he or she steps into the role.

Randy Naylor emphasized that he is not retiring and has not accepted another position...indeed he will be actively looking for future employment and added: "I am too young to retire and not wealthy enough to take early retirement!"

Naylor summarized his resignation with these thoughts:

"It is impossible to fully describe the deep sense of gratitude I have for those who have supported me in this role. I will leave with contacts and friends on every continent as well as an ongoing appreciation for the many expressions of the communication ministries which represent the very best aspirations of our Association and the most faithful responses to our communicating God."

In accepting Naylor's resignation the President noted: "Randy Naylor has served WACC with distinction. In recent years we have gone through a transatlantic move and profound changes in both our program and governance structures. Due to Randy's competent leadership we are now better positioned to meet the challenges of the future. Randy has always demonstrated that 'Taking Sides' with the silenced and the excluded is not an intellectual exercise, but a profound personal commitment rooted in a vibrant faith. He may leave the position of General Secretary, but he will always be part of WACC. We wish him well in his next endeavour."

The Officers and the Board have developed a hiring process to ensure that a new General Secretary is in place by the first of November. Full details will be on the WACC website (http://www.waccglobal.org) on March 3rd.
