Television programmes on peace-building awareness in Burkina Faso

Communication for Peace

Burkina Faso

Télé-Vie-Deo designed, produced and distributed a series of three educational and awareness-building programmes using a 26-minute magazine format. Presenters, influential people and experts discussed topics of the day bringing in ordinary people interviewed in the street. The programmes were broadcast in Burkina Faso on the national channel, on two commercial stations, and on two Christian channels. They will also be broadcast by stations in other francophone countries. The thematic content of the programmes covered peace in society, civil war, the causes of conflict, conflict management, peace in the community, and peace in the home. Télé-Vie-Deo also produced study guides and audiovisual supporting material to enable organisations to screen the programmes and encourage debate. One unexpected outcome of the project was that it led to an invitation by the European Union (under its programme to strengthen the organisational capacity of civil society) to produce 15 programmes on good governance and to organise four training sessions on audiovisual media.
