Media Development quarterly features development issues

By Solange Desantis on August 12, 2013

The third quarter issue of Media Development has been published.

Contributors put forward a range of ideas supporting the notion that communication rights have a unique role to play in creating enabling environments in which people can challenge the status quo and bring about change.

As ACT Alliance points out, “Rights-based strategies hold great potential as a powerful tool for empowerment aimed at political, social and economic transformation.

"However, unless we adapt our current policies and practices to its principles and challenge the unequal power relationships that underlie poverty, we will fall short of addressing the issue of institutionalized poverty and social exclusion confronting the world."

Article titles include:

-- Communication for development and sustainability by Patchanee Malikhao

-- Looking beyond neo-liberal communication approaches by Murali Shanmugavelan

-- Development is resource justice by Bruno Stöckli

-- The Nairobi Declaration for Development Effectiveness

-- Post-2015 Development Framework: Conflict and fragility
