Center for Global Nonkilling seeks support to advance its work

Humanity United has guaranteed Center for Global Nonkilling (CGNK)  a $50K investment to continue its new programs on condition that it raises an additional $100K from other sources during the next few months. CGNK is appealing for international support to secure this contribution. Humanity United is an independent grant-making organization committed to building a world where mass atrocities and modern-day slavery are no longer possible. Funding to establish the Center in 2008 came primarily from Humanity United.

CGNK’s Nonkilling Research Committees have completed four new innovative studies that are ready for publication. They are Nonkilling Futures: Visions, edited by renown futures scholar James Dator and including ten chapters that discuss images and scenarios for the realization of killing-free societies, and Nonkilling Media, prepared by CGNK Director Joám Evans Pim and featuring nine chapters that analyze the role of the media in the prevention and reduction of killings. One chapter is by WACC’s Deputy-Director of Progtrammes, Philip Lee, titled “Nonkilling Media: A Normative Framework”.

Nonkilling Linguistics: Practical Applications, edited by Patricia Friedrich and presenting seven chapters that show how language is relevant to nonkilling from applied educational, policy, legal and media perspectives; and Nonkilling Security and the State, a wide interdisciplinary collection of essays from the fields of political science, sociology, law, philosophy, women’s studies, international relations that provide new perspectives on nonkilling common security institutions.

All CGNK publications are available for free download and are licenced through a Creative Commons copyright agreement that allows wide non-commercial circulation. The Center also makes its books available in paperback format at production cost so they can be used as textbooks and works of reference in universities worldwide.

The Center is at a crossroads. For this important work to continue, visionaries from around the world are invited to become a part of the Center’s support network. A world free from killing is its collective goal.
